SCHOOL WATER • KWANZA, TRANS NZOIA

Water Supply Comprehensive Primary School was founded by the WASU Women’s Group in 2013. The project brief reports 480 learners and 53 nearby households sharing the same water source. The school’s closest community water point is more than three miles away. A nearby shallow well has served the school and community, but the brief describes it as unsafe and difficult to access. Students have spent time carrying water, taking time away from learning.
he proposed plan is to install a solar pump and pipe water about 700 metres to the school. Water would be stored in an elevated tank and distributed to taps and handwashing stations around the compound. Rainwater collection is also proposed to supplement the well. The project brief describes a proposed design. SWIG will share confirmed construction progress and results when available. Support school water and sanitation through SWIG.
